CrescentCare stands firm in support of LGBTQ+ rights and gender-affirming care in the wake of discriminatory legislation
New Orleans, LA – CrescentCare, a leading healthcare provider in the Gulf South, affirms its commitment to providing gender-affirming care to our patients, and standing in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities in the wake of harmful legislative attacks.
We are deeply concerned about the recent legislative efforts aimed at restricting access to gender-affirming care. These bills threaten the health and well-being of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, and deny them, their medical providers, and their families the right to make informed decisions about their own healthcare. HB463 would prohibit medical professionals from providing transition-related services to minors, prohibit the use of public funds allocated to any entity/organization that provides gender transition-related services, and threaten the licensing of providers who provide gender-affirming care to minors.
“Since our founding as NO/AIDS Task Force in 1983, we’ve been dedicated to treating all in our community with dignity and respect,” says Alice Riener, CEO at CrescentCare. “As legislators continue their attacks on LGBTQ+ people across the Gulf South and nation, we ask all in our community to join us in contacting their legislators to urge action against these hateful bills. Our laws are meant to protect us, not attack and divide us.”
As trained medical professionals, we recognize that gender-affirming care is an essential part of healthcare for many individuals and is associated with positive health outcomes, including improved mental health and well-being. Further, these services are considered safe, effective, well-researched, and are widely supported by all leading medical associations and societies.
Use this form to contact your elected officials and voice your opposition to HB463 before noon on Monday, May 1 and make your voice heard in person at the Capitol on Tuesday, May 2 at 9 a.m. Learn more about other anti-LGBTQ+ bills and how to take action here.
We stand with the LGBTQ+ community and will continue to advocate for the rights of all individuals to receive comprehensive, compassionate, and inclusive healthcare.
